Do U.S. Men and Women Spend the Same Amount of Time With their Children?

Short answer: No.


We used time-diary data from the American Time Use Survey and compared the amount of time spent with children, in a variety of activities, by mothers and fathers. We found that in most childcare activity types, mothers do more than fathers. We also explored variation by child developmental stages, and parent's educational attainment.
